Hi
I'm looking for the full sequence of steps to migrate 10 Windows 7 PC's from a SBS2008 Server to a new Essentials 2012 R2 server. I have read several posts on the forum, including the following and it is also a professional version of the product that I am using. http://forum.forensit.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=457&KW=SBS&PID=1499#1499 and http://forum.forensit.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=379&KW=SBS&PID=1434#1434 I have read where it shows these steps: 1) Install User Profile Wizard on new Server and run the wizard to create the config file. 2) Create all domain user accounts on new SBS 2011 Server 2) Turn off old server 3) Visit each workstation and login in as an administrator and run http://sbs2011_server/connect 4) Reboot PC and and log into new domain as administrator 5) Run User Profile Wizard from a USB stick at each PC 6) Instruct UPW to connect the User.OldDomain profile to the new User.NewDomain account 7) Reboot and log in as User.NewDomain 8) Turn OldServer back on and move any rogue user files from the old server to the user's directory on the new server However this won't work with Essentials 2012 R2, as the PC's are already domain joined to a SBS2008 server, they can't be moved directly to a Essentials 2012 R2 server, as Essentials will not allow http://connect to be run if you are already a member of an existing domain. Therefore, I presume I have to migrate from the existing domain to a workgroup, first and then use the 'built-in' wizards in Essentials 2012 to correctly join the PC to the New Network. I have the new users already setup on the new Server, with the same usernames and passwords. I have a local administrator account setup on each PC, with a generic name USER. I'm not sure what the correct steps are, I have tried disjoining the PC from the Domain and assigning it to a workgroup. When I do this and run Profwiz, the 'Name' of the account has changed from COMPANY\John to S-1-5-21-185602..... Rather than manually disjoining from the domain, Should I just run the Profwiz and select the profile COMPANY\John and select the local PC and then tick the 'Join Workgroup' button ? Also, when it asks to 'Enter the account name', I presume that this must be an existing local account ? Should I create a new Blank Administrator Local account for this, and do I log into this account or not, before I do the migration ? Thanks. |
