Hi
I have had great luck with User profile wizard copying one AD user profile to another new AD user. What I want to do now is copy an AD profile to a non active directory work group profile. It fails and hangs when I do it. To do this, I 1: logged in the local machine and created a new user with local admin rights. 2: Logged in as that new user and then logged off. 3: Logged back on as an AD admin and ran UPW and copied the AD profile in question. 4: I then used UPW to copy that AD profile to the new WG profile I created. 5: When I try to boot into the new WG profile, the machine just hangs? What am I doing wrong? Thanks Don |

User Profile Wizard does not move, copy or delete any data. Instead it configures the existing profile “in place” so that it can be used by the user’s new account.
You should never sign-in as the new user account before migrating the profile. Instead migrate the old profile directly to the new AD account. (User Profile Wizard will join the new domain for you.) |

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I am not sure you understood my question. I want to migrate FROM an existing AD profile TO a newly created local profile. Is this doable? TX |

Should I be running this software as the domain admin?

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Please see Migrating from domain to local accounts in the User Guide
The original advice remains valid, however: you should not sign-in as the new user account first, and User Profile Wizard does not copy any data. There is no need to sign back in as the AD account. You can run the migration from any Administrator account. |
