I have an old Windows 2003 Server. An app I use is no longer supported on Win 2003 so I bought some memory for the server and reformatted it with Windows Server 2012 R2 on the weekend.
We have 3 computers that attach to the server. I had no problems using User Profile Wizard 3.14 to attach a Windows 8 computer to the server. Next up was a Windows 7 machine. Profile Wizard failed with this message: The domain controller for "XXXXX" cannot be found. Here are my notes: + Error message on Anna's computer (Windows 7): The domain controller for "XXXXX" cannot be found. + Detached from domain and attached to workgroup X200S-1 + Rebooted + Tried to attach to domain again using Profile Wizard + Same error message + Added server IP address to DNS lookup on X200S-1 (at top) + ipconfig /all showed server IP address at top + Rebooted + Tried using domain and administrator in Profile Wizard + Also failed with same error message Any ideas on how I can get this machine to attach to the domain? Thanks very much, John |

See Finding Domain Controller Fails/ “The RPC server is unavailable” in the "Troubleshooting" chapter of the User Guide

Thanks, I believe I set the DNS forwarders, but will review to make sure.
