We are currently have to migrate 50 plus workstations from a workgroup to a domain.  We have set a standard user naming scheme in A/D but the workstation login accounts are totally different.  Is there a way to use the profile wizard deployment to run a script that will migrate both the computers & match the local users from the workgroup to the domain user accounts?

Thanks.

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Yes, you can use a look-up file to map the local account names to the new AD account names. Please see "Rename user accounts" in the User Guide. This feature is available in the Corporate Edition.

I have the corp. edition.  Just wondering how the code works to match up local usernames to domain usernames.  I could care less about computer names.

Thanks in advance.

Mark.

You just need to create a plain-text, comma-seprated file in the form

oldlocalname1,newADname1
oldlocalname2,newADname2

You then set the <UserLookupFile> value in Profwiz.config to the location of the file. User Profile Wizard will then automatically consult the file when it comes to migrate a local user account profile, and use the new name if it finds it.

Ok, thanks, I'm making some head way, but the local user's personal settings are not getting migrated/copied to the domain accounts.

Migration.csv file:  Where the Test01 is workgroup & mmbctest01 is domain.

test01,mmbctest01
test02,mmbctest02
test03,mmbctest03
test04,mmbctest04

Here is what the log file displays...

Hi Mark,

As you have probably seen, the problem is "User not found in lookup file." So either there is a problem with the format of the file, or User Profile Wizard is using the wrong one.

If you send your .csv file and your Profwiz.config file to support@ForensiT.com we will be happy to take a look.
