I revisited the PC today. I can open the apps from my own domain profile. I also logged in with my Microsoft Account and was able to accomplish everything I want out of my domain login: instant messaging with Lync (and therefore almost certainly email through Outlook), map my department's group network drive, and remote in to my desktop through Windows built-in Remote Desktop Connection.
Now, the question is, can the end user do all of the same through his accounts-- domain profile and Microsoft Account? If not, I think that would suggest some sort of account corruption happened, and I will perform a "Refresh" on the PC and reconfigure it all again.

End user domain profile still had "broken" applications-- the Metro apps but also the Remote Desktop Connection not working as expected (as it did with my profile).
User opted for a full system restore.

To better support the migration of Windows 8 workstations, we have changed the way that User Profile Wizard migrates Windows Store Apps.

The updated code is available in build 3.7.1186 which is now available from the downloads page.

If you are migrating Windows 8 machines you should use the new build.

To better capture issues with the new build, we have locked this thread. Please post any issues in a new topic.

Many thanks for all your feedback.
