It seems version 3.7 of User Profile Wizard was released nearly a month ago. When version 3.6 was released, there was a "What's New" Developer's Blog post (March, 2012). When will something be posted highlighting the new features and/or functionality of version 3.7?

Fair comment. Version 3.7 does not add any new functionality - which is why there has been no "What's New" post. Instead the release in aimed at improving the scope and reliability of the migration process. The update fixes some minor bugs, including this one on XP 64-bit machines, as well as providing additional support for Google Drive and DropBox. There is also a new error handling mechanism which we hope will enable us to quickly identify and fix problems if they occur. The changes are minor but important, and we would recommend you use the updated version. Thank you very much for your interest. |

Dear Forensit!
We've just tried the method of migrating old XP profiles with your tool today. Things had gone well in the first few profiles but we gone trouble on two PC's. They have Windows XP SP3 (32 bit) installed with latest patches. When we open the Profile Wizard it crashes every time. On one of the PC's we have installed all the patches ever had been published for Windows XP, but the same problem still exists. What will causing it? Are there any patches or development/runtime tools this utility need to run correctly? Windows XP's error report gives not so much usable information for a simple IT administrator, not a developer. Please help! It is a great utility, just keep the same way guys! Thanks! Zoltan |

We are aware of an "Illegal Instruction" error on some older XP machines - normally machines with 32-bit AMD processors. We suspect this is caused by the way the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 compiler generates code for XP.
The only way we could fix this is to compile the code on an older version of Visual Studio, which we areally don't want to do. There is an older build of User Profile Wizard on our Support Downloads page which should work: http://www.forensit.com/support-downloads.html Look for "Download Profwiz (Windows 2000 Compatible)" |
