Maintaining SID History

   Can anyone tell me what 'Maintaining SID History' actually does?

For example, old domain is called ford.com, new domain is called ferrari.com. When the user account is migrated to the new domain, what can it do at the old domain? So the user logins to the new domain, and wants to connect to a share on the old domain, it cannot login with Ferrari.com\frank right?
