Microsoft's SQL Server stores SIDs to associate clients connecting to the server using Windows Authentication with their SQL Logins and SQL Database Users.

I haven't found anything to either confirm or refute that even using the Forensit User Profile Wizard, you still end up with a different SID than what you started with, so your access to SQL Server will (probably) be lost after migration. This would also be true of any other software that recognizes you by SID.

So... after migration do you end up with the same SID or a different SID?

User Profile Wizard migrates the user profile to a new user account. The new user account will have a different SID.

Thanks for the prompt response. Although this is still a cleaner transfer than MS's migration tool, perhaps you could add to your FAQ those few things that might be left broken after the migrations. Things that come to mind are:
  • File system permissions elsewhere than within the new Profile (I assume)
  • SQL accounts using Windows Authentication
  • Personal encrypted information including:
    • Private keys for certificates
    • File system encryption keys
    • (probably) stored credentials
