I am on Windows 8.1 attempting to migrate a local user profile to a domain user profile, and User Profile Wizard 3.7 keeps hanging at the Setting Profile ACL... step of the migration. There is no errors, the User Profile Migration Service is currently Running. The only item I see under C:\Users is a text file named after the machine name.

Can anyone help? http://forum.forensit.com/smileys/smiley9.gif

Thanks for any assistance.

Kind Regards,

Jim

Some more information. The size of the hard disk is not growing at all. I have been waiting 8 hours on this step of the migration. I have checked the user profile list in the registry, the new domain user does not appear in the profile list, nor as a new user in the C:\Users folder.

Jim,

Migrating a profile should only take a few minutes, if that. The first page of the User Guide states that User Profile Wizard does not move, copy or delete any data. Instead it configures the profile “in place” so that it can be used by the user’s new domain account. This makes the process both very fast and very safe. It also means that you will not see the new user appear under C:\Users, becuse the software is configuring an existing profile not creating a new one.

The most likely cause of the problem is that User Profile Wizard has tripped over a corrupt file system Security Descriptor. As a first step, you should run Chkdsk and then try the migration again.
