Just tried the new version but unfortunately there was an initial error when I tried to use DefProf from a command prompt (see DefProf1.jpg)

Also the desktop gadgets didn't get brought forward to the new profile ;-(

The MS Office desktop icons that were on the source profile didn't get brought forward either?

There's also the 2 screengrabs of the "User Pinned Properties" item that appears in the Quick Launch toolbar on new profiles?

Any ideas?

The profile (or parts of it) were in use and couldn't be copied. You just need to reboot.

Should the desktop icons get carried forward? The programmes were installed for all users.

UPDATE:

I did a clean reboot and then used DefProf "clean"

No errors and it completed fine.

I then created a new user account and rebooted - and everything appeared perfectly in the new profile :-)

I shall try a few more times on the test rig to make sure but the clean reboot might help before actually building the new profile?

Yes it does work fine now. I've reimaged and followed the exact same procedure as above several times - all successfully. I think rebooting after creating a new profile seems to make things run more smoothly.

The only tiny thing that needed tweaking after a new profile (based on an existing one) is created is that I had installed a couple of utilities that keep their data files in the source profiles documents folder.

When logging in with the new profile it was necessary to change the setting for the utility (in this case an application call Clipcache) to store it's data file in the new profiles docs folder and not the source profiles docs folder.

All in all a great and elegantly simple working solution for setting up a customised default profile - thanks guys :-)
