Hi all,
User has a company owned laptop in Dubai, connects via VPN to our network in Canada. Laptop was joined to domain, but user was using local user. Remotely connected to the laptop using a VPN connection, logged in as a local admin, and tried to migrate his local user profile to domain user, but failed with the message "attempting to contact domain controller failed". Was able to ping domain successfully. Checked IPV4 settings, flushed dns, etc still same error. Unjoined computer from the domain, and still no luck in transferring local user to domain profile. Same error - unable to contact domain controller of target domain.
Any advice? Thanks, J Edited by itziva - 09 Jun 2021 at 9:46pm |

It is very usual to get "Finding Domain Controller Fails" when the machine is already joined to the domain - usually it is a DNS issue. In this case it could be a VPN/Port/Firewall issue. You can test connectivity to the new target domain DC by running the Microsoft dcdiag tool from the workstation. (This is installed with the Remote Server Administration Tools if you turn on the Active Directory Domain Services Tools feature.) The command line would be: dcdiag /s: dc.domain.com |
