    Posted: 06 May 2024 at 4:57pm
Hello,

Actually I have a user who works on his computer on his session in the local domain "contoso.dom"
Now I need to migrate his computer to Microsoft Entra ID.

What is the best way to remove his computer from "contoso.dom" (this DC server will be deleted) and join his computer to Microsoft Entra ID and also migrate his on-premise user profil to his new profil from Entra ID ?

Regards,

Hi,

You can use User Profile Wizard to migrate the profile from the Domain account to the new Azure account, unjoin the computer from the domain and join it to Azure by installing a Provisioning Package for you (or you can join the computer to Azure using Windows Settings). When the user logs on to the new Azure account, they will have access to the migrated profile.

You can join the computer to Azure before or after you migrate the profile, do not log on to the new account before you have migrated the profile to it.

I hope this helps,

Many thanks,

Support.

Hello,

Thanks for your fast reply.

On my actual on-premise DC i have a lot of GPO (computers/users) to set the local user environment.
For example i hide the drive C SYSTEM for all users.

When I will migrate the user session thought User Profile Wizard to entra ID, I will have a migrated user session but applicated GPO from on-premise DC won't be applied. So the drive C won't be hidden in the new session, isn't ?

If the C drive will be still hidden after migration, is it possible to migrate user profil but reset all parameters provided from on-premise GPO during the migration process ?

I am trying to do this at the moment to test out the tool.

Are u saying that u first need to leave the AD domain before I can run the tool and join azure?

Hi,

Settings applied by the old Computer GPO will continue to apply until something changes the setting.

Many thanks,

Support.

Hi,

You do not need to unjoin the computer from the AD domain before you use the Wizard to migrate the profile to the new Azure account.

You can join the computer to Azure before or after you migrate the profile, do not log on to the new account before you have migrated the profile to it.

I hope this helps,
