Hi we have been using profwiz for quite a long time however on new domains with folder redirection it seems to not successfully move over the profiles nicely and causes them to use a temp profile upon not logon. Has anyone successfully done a migration with folder redirection from one server to another without issue?

User Profile Wizard migrates folder redirection settings unchanged.

The best advice is to disable Folder Redirection before migrating the profile. If you are using a Group Policy, you have the option to redirect back to the local profile and move the contents - or not.

Does this mean access to the redirected folders on the server in the previous domain will continue to work?

No. It means it proabably won't, because the new user account will not have permissions to the shares on previous domain.

I have a similar issue. For us, the users are mostly remote now and so changes to group policy will be unlikely to reach many users. This is especially since the move to WFH with Covid and a file server (with VPN) migration to Sharepoint.

So far, I have two batch files to run after a migration for these users. One that changes the documents and pictures folder location to the new local folder path in the OneDrive backup folder. The other is a file that copies (can't move) the folder redirection cached files to the new folder locations.

Two files because one is run as the local user and one as admin. In our case local users are not admins.

Luckily, we started using OneDrive backups instead of folder redirection some time ago. So only the older users/machines have redirection and there isn't too much to manually change like this.
