Hi - We are looking to move a number of computers remotely and have not been able to successful migrate a user profile using the migration wizard. Procedure followed is below:
- User account migrated between ADs via ADMT successfully - User log into their account - User connects to VPN - User confirm both domains are reachable - Run migration wizard for the computer from old to new domain and select user account, migrating just the one profile which is said to be completed successfully and user prompted reboot to happen in 10sec - Reboot - User is prompted to log into their account as before (not connected to the vpn). NB - user is able to use original password. Takes about 3-4mins for welcome screen to disappear and user logged in. - Check computer domain and its in new domain - Check user profile but it still says the old domain (eg olddomain\user1) If we try logging in as the newdomain\user1 a new profile is created as newdomain\user1.newdomain without any of the settings of the olddomain\user1 profile. We don't have a way to have the user log in via the VPN before logging into the computer so not sure if this is what is causing the issue. If anyone can help it will be much appreciated. |

Hi,
Which Edition of User Profile Wizard are you using? You can configure the Corporate Edition of User Profile Wizard to pre-cache a password for the new user account, to allow the user to log on to the new account before establishing a VPN session. To be able to advise on this, we would need to see the migration log file, please can you email support@forensit.com ? Thanks, Support. |

Hi,
Thank you for the additional information and the migration log, we have replied to your ticket, but I'll reply here too to close this post off. Looking at the Migration Log, the issue in this case if because SID History migration is enabled, but permissions are not correct. 20/03/2022 16:10:35.685 Migrating account with sIDHistory... fails. Access is denied. For information on
setting up accounts with the correct permissions to migrate SID history, please
see the Microsoft article here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc974398(v=ws.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN If you did not intend to, or require to migrate SID history, if you unselect that option, the migration should proceed as expected. Please do not hesitate to contact us at support@forensit.com if you have any further issues, Many thanks, Support.

Hello. I have nearly the same issue with remote user migration . User migrates remotely with VPN connected. Last user profile migration . Computer joins the domain. Users enter the password to cache. After restart user credentials does not work . What are the correct options for the script(config file) so user can login after restart in the new domain with same credentials ?

The only time we ever see an issue with using VPN credential caching is if there is an Anti-Virus or security program blocking the software from working correctly. Caching domain credentials is a low-level operation, and this can be flagged as suspicious by some third-party applications.
Please can you email the migration log to support@forensit.com and we will be happy to review and advise further. Support.
