Hi!

We currently run a network with 3 clients (Win7) and a SBS2008. The plan is to change the server to a 2012R2 essentials. Since the SBS2008 doesn't run properly we would rather just drop that one and install the new one instead of running both at the same time, do a "proper" migration and demoting the old one.
So after I installed and set up the new 2012R2 server, can I just run your tool and join the old clients to the new domain? Do I have to set up the users on the 2012R2 first with the same credentials? Or is it more sensible to join the clients into the new domain using the connector provided by microsoft (http://domain/connect) and then using your software to realocate the old profiles into the new domain?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi,

You need to set up the user accounts on the new domain first. If you are using Server Essentials you should also use the connect Wizard (http://domain/connect) to join the machines to the new domain. You can then use User Profile Wizard to migrate the profiles.

Almost a year later ... but wanted to ask some questions:
(1) do you need to disjoin each workstation from the old server first? It sounds like from this post that it's not necessary
(2) after running http://connect --- I would think you need to login as the new server's domain admin, and then run ProfWiz.

Anything else?
