We are planning on migrating 48 computers at one of our office locations from one domain in our forest to another domain in our forest. The source domain is xyz.local and the target domain is abc.com. (these are not the real domain names.)
All of the computers and all of the domain accounts exist on the source domain. I am planning on purchasing 50 Corporate Edition seats in order to automate the migration as much as possible. In testing with the Freeware Edition, when I try testing a migration with a test computer and a test domain account, I get the following: Getting FQDN for user "test"... Fails.
User not found in domain. Migration Fails. The source account is xyz\test and we want the account\profile to move to the new domain abc\test. The UPN and the saMAccount name will remain the same, except for the domain name portion. Does Profwiz only migrate the computer to the new domain? It is required that we either create a new "test" domain account on the target, or migrate the account with something like Active Directory Migration Tool? I had been under the impression that Profwiz could migrate the computer to the target domain as well as migrate the account/profile to the new domain. If anyone has had a similar experience and has a solution, I would appreciate any advice. Thanks! |

Hi,
The new user account must already exist in the target domain. You can create the new accounts manually or use a tool such as ADMT. User Profile Wizard will then migrate the profile to the new account and join the computer to the new domain (if configured to do so). Many thanks, Support.
