I have downloaded and tested out the new transfer wizard and it worked. For me...to well :)
Here is what I would like to use a product like this for (this is a generic situation):
I have an XP box with upwards of 40 domain profiles on it. I need to reimage it and want to preserve all user account data, not necessarily the settings. Most times I am re-imaging machines is because of malware or viruses that also reside the profiles. What I need to do is backup everyone data and restore it afterward. I do not want to wait for 40 people to log in so I can put their my documents and desktop items where they belong. I don't care about application folders or local settings or even the background wallpaper. Just pure data.
Can your product do this or have the capacity to do this?
I forgot to mention...this would have to be done from a pre-installation
environment.

Hi,
At the moment there is no way for Transwiz to restore just the data and not the settings. In fact it is difficult to see how this could be done. On logon Windows checks to make sure that the registry part of the profile (where most of the settings are held) exists and can be loaded: if it doesn't exist, Windows creates a new profile for the user - so you would only end up having to copy the data to the new profile anyway...

Correct, I was playing around with deleting folders and files from the .zip folder before deployment yesterday.
I wonder if the ntuser.dat could be copied from the default profile into the newly created profile before the person logs in. I think this may overwrite a possibly corrupt/damaged hive with a default one.
Actually, I think the transwiz program was setting ACLs in the registry during deployment...Perhaps the default hive would have to be injected into the zip before deployment.
If I have time on Monday, I will experiment with that.
