Hi,

First of all thank you very much for having a personal edition of TransWiz available. It has been very helpful for computer upgrades to out non-profit organization!

On a domain network is the transwiz exe suppose to be installed on the server or the client? I have done a couple of transfers by running the .exe on the client computer to pack up their files. Then I log into the new computer's local admin account and run the .exe unpacking the files.

When I do this selecting join domain from transwiz and not renaming computer (already deleted from AD and renamed) it seems to always connect the new machine to a local machine account. I can get around this by logging into the local admin account and adding the user again to the domain and everything works. Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Hi,

Transwiz must be run on the computer where you want to restore the profile. (Not on the server.)

To assign a profile to a new domain account you need to type in the name of the domain in the "Enter the domain" dropdown box on the "User Account Information" page. This box defaults to the local machine name if the original profile was a local account.

We are aware that this is a bit confusing. (If the machine is already joined to a domain, the domain name doesn't automatically appear.) We will try to improve this in the next release.

Hi,

You always need to run Transwiz on the computer where you want to restore the profile (not on the server.)

To assign the profile to a new domain account you need to type in the domain name in the "Enter the domain" dropdown box on the "User Account Information" page. This box defaults to the local computer name if the profile was originally a local user account.

We are aware that this is a bit confusing. (The domain name doesn't appear if the machine is already joined to a domain, for example.) We will try and improve things in the next release.

Thank you very much for the info!

I thought it pre-filled out the domain in the drop down box, but obviously I'm wrong. I'll pay more attention the next time I upgrade another computer on the network.
