When using the corporate edition of User Profile Wizard 3.0...

Some employees are using their new AD accounts and have manually migrated their profile data.  When they run your tool to join the domain, their new AD account is re-associated with their old profile, and their current profile is no longer associated with any account.  In this case, we would like to skip the user migration phase, but still use your tool to join the new domain.

Unfortunately, both the /NOMIGRATE command line argument and the NoMigrate option in profwiz.config seem to be ignored when running from an account on the new domain.

Is this a bug?  Do you know of a workaround?

Hi,

In what sense could this be a bug? User Profile Wizard is doing exactly what you are asking it to do Smile  You have told it to migrate the user’s local account profile to the user’s new domain account, so that it what it does. User Profile Wizard does not check whether the domain user account already has a profile.

There are a number of ways forward. If the user has already manually migrated their profile data, they must already be logging on with their new domain account and their machine must already be joined to the domain – so why run User Profile Wizard at all? If some machines are joined to the domain and some not, we can check whether a machine is joined and skip the migration if it is. Alternatively, if you want to check whether a user already has a domain account profile we can script that too (with some additional work) and skip as required.

The /NOMIGRATE  parameter is generally used to skip the migration of individual profiles, but continue to join the machine to the domain. It sounds like your machines are already joined to the domain, so it is possibly not appropriate here.

Sorry, I may have been unclear. I do not expect your tool to know when to skip the user migration. We have our own script for determining that.

But I do expect your tool to skip the user migration when I use the /NOMIGRATE command line argument, or the NoMigrate option in profwiz.config.

In our situation, some users are using their new domain account, but their computers are still a member of the old domain. So we would like to skip the profile migration and simply join the new domain.

When we use the /NOMIGRATE command line argument, or the NoMigrate option in profwiz.config, your tool joins the new domain as desired, but also performs the profile migration.

I received the following response from ForensiT support.

"To just join the PC you need to set <NoGUI> to True, as well as setting  <NoMigrate> to True and <All> to False. If you don’t do this, the Wizard assumes you are just setting parameters for the GUI."

It works!  Thanks guys!!
